Suede & Nubuck Care

Know the difference

Suede and nubuck have a soft, napped surface rather than a smooth grain, so the creams and conditioners used on smooth leather aren't suitable here. They can stain or flatten the nap. These materials call for dry-care methods instead.

Brushing

Brush suede and nubuck regularly with a dedicated suede brush, moving in one direction to lift the nap and release surface dirt and dust. Do this before storing and after each wear in dusty conditions.

Marks and scuffs

Light scuffs can often be lifted with a suede eraser or the rubber edge of a suede brush-  gently rub the mark, then brush the area to restore the texture. For deeper stains, professional cleaning is usually the safer option.

Water and weather

Apply a suede-specific waterproofing spray before the first wear, and reapply periodically. If suede does get wet, let it air-dry naturally away from heat, then brush gently once fully dry to restore the nap. Never attempt to dry it quickly with direct heat.

Storage

Store suede and nubuck pieces in a breathable dust bag rather than plastic, which can trap moisture, and keep them away from prolonged direct sunlight to prevent fading.
